Final Run Part 2
With a shake of her head, Jill tapped the keys necessary to begin the countdown to the firing of the super-duper computer. Jill laughed silently to herself, ‘Super-duper computer, what a name you’ll have made for yourself my dear machine, if you do your job today. Fingers crossed.’ She watched as the machine down below hummed to life, the tip of the long needle, that always remined Jill of a felt pen, glowed blue. Her screen flashed the number 3, then 2, and finally 1. With a burst of blue light, the tip of the needle fired, throwing a ball of blue crackling energy up towards the watermelon..
It hit it with full force, enveloping the fruit, there it stayed. Jack waited to hear the other part of the machine to kick in and take that watermelon to wherever it was supposed to go. Nothing happened. Five minutes passed and the energy surrounding the watermelon gave one final crackle before going out. The watermelon exploded, sending chunks flying in every direction. Jack cursed, “I thought you said you fixed the damn problem.”
“I thought I did too,” Jill replied. “Give me a moment to check over everything, why don’t you grab us both coffee?”
“Fine, I will do that,” Jack sighed. “But remember we are on a deadline and can’t afford any more delays.”
“I know,” Jill replied. “I just need some time to think.
