When the Innocent go out to play
“Now as to what I needed the water for,” Narrator continued. “I need it to fuel my space ship, as well as other necessary components on the ship, including life support, lighting, navigation and waste disposal.”
“Now that you got what you wanted, can we leave this place and never be bothered again by you,” John asked.
“Not so fast cowboy. I still have need of you and you’re forgetting that you are to report to me concerning your mission. Now the next step on the agenda is to obtain a material strong enough to keep to hull intact when it enters the worm hole. If you guys have not already encountered the purple tree, you will soon. What I need from you is a seedling from that tree. I’m sure that this should be easy enough task for you guys right?
“Yes, I believe that I can manage that,” Fatheriam replied. “I am after all a man of science and one of my numerous specialties is identifying and collecting rare herbs and roots.”
“That’s not the only thing you collect, now is it?”
“What do you mean?”
“You like them young,” Narrator replied. “You take their innocence from them and then discard them when they grow old to you.”
“One must have his guilty pleasures,” Fatheriam replied. “Now if you’d like, I’ll have that seedling for you by the next time that we meet.”
“See that you do, I will be greatly disappointed if you fail.” Narrator replied, as he pushed a button that released them from their restraints. “I’ll see you all next week at this same time. Make sure you have everything you promised to get me.”
