Jillian and the Bastet Clan Part 5: the ever allusive red dot. Part 2

Snapping her eyes open, Jillian waited for the red dot to complete its circle. As it drew near, she prepared herself to leap at the exact moment it was set to cross her path. Her muscles quivered like a tight spring, ready to uncoil at the precise moment. Jillian let the red dot pass. Time meant nothing now. Blocking her prey from her mind, Jillian instead focused her mind on the dark shapes that the red dot passed over. Each one shone back a thin beam of light that always seemed to come from a fixed central point. ‘Now,’ Jillian meowed to herself, ‘Time for prove this theory.’

The red dot made its trek around the room, and back to Jillian’s location, she leaped over the beam and looked down its red line. At end of the red light was a small black device that appeared to be attached to a weighted pole. Landing back on her paws, Jillian thought about what she had to do. To simply walk up to the device was foolish (who knew what other challenges it might have in store). If she was going to capture the red dot, she was going to do it in style. Looking around for something to help her achieve her goal, Jillian noticed the wall behind her.

Looking it briefly over, she purred gently to herself, “This will do.” Backing up, Jillian kept one eye on the red dot as it ran along its usual course around the room. Crouching she waited till it was three quarters of the way around, before letting herself fly full speed at the wall. As she reached the wall, Jillian leaped in the air and ran halfway up the wall. In one graceful movement, she launched herself off the wall in the direction of the black device. Claws extended, mouth open, Jillian released a battle cry seconds before latching onto the black device with her jaw.

In an instant the lights clicked on and Jillian found herself in auditorium of sorts. The seats were made of solid stone that matched the walls of the pyramid. The front row was filled with the Basset Clan Masters, who were the oldest and wisest of the Basset Ninja clan. Jillian watched as they stood, bowed and walked out of the auditorium, shutting off the lights as they did. Letting go of the laser pointer, Jillian dropped to the floor and found her way out of the room. As she stepped through the door, she let loose a sigh of relief. ‘For better or worse,” Jillian, meowed to herself, “The test appears to be over.”

“A most unorthodox way of dealing with the red dot,” Master Plushy Paws said as he walked up behind Jillian.”

“But an effective one,” Jillian replied. “I passed the test”

“The first part yes,” Master Plushy Paws replied slowly. “Now though you must face Grand Master Purr A Lot, who is waiting for you in the medication chambers."
