Sister weighs her options

After Sister Minor had left, Sister sat in front of the mirror, and stared at her tear streaked face weighing her options. ‘Should she forget any of this had happened and proceed with what is expected of her? No death is preferable to this.’ Sister yanked open the right side drawer of the vanity, causing its contents to slide to the back of drawer with a bang. Sorting through the contents of the drawer while keeping her eyes on the mirror, she drew out the diamond crested dagger, with a jade dragon handle. Holding the dagger in her left hand, she scraped the blade lightly with her right thumb, causing it to bleed. ‘This will do the job nicely.’

Sister spun the blade on the top of the vanity, watching the reflection of the blade spin round and round in the mirror, as it drilled a small hole in the ebony. It had been a present from Father for her tenth birthday. Grabbing the handle in a flash, Sister moved it to her breast, then with a sob slammed it down into vanity. ‘No! There had to be another way. Perhaps Sister Minor is right, perhaps it’d be prudent for her to run away.’

Snatching up the quill in one hand, she grabbed a blank parchment from the right side drawer and threw it on the vanity. Knocking the lid off of the ink jar, Sister viciously stabbed the tip of the quill into the thick black substance, spilling black ink everywhere. Without a thought to the mess, she moved the dripping quill over to the parchment and began to write, smudging the letters as she did so. After a few moments, Sister looked up and starred at the quivering dagger, “If this attempt fails,” she said aloud, “Then you and I my friend will become one.”
