Whispered Love
“Put it out of your mind, sister. Come it looks like you could use some fresh air. Step out on the Veranda with me, and enjoy the freshness of night.” Brother replied, taking her gently by the arm and leading her through the throng of people. Just then, the orchestra picked up a lively tune, and Sister grabbed Brother’s arm, and dragged him to the dance floor. “I love this song.”
“What’s it called,” Brother yelled above the noise of their fellow dancers.
“Come Dance With Me.”
“Yes, but what’s the name of the song?”
“That is the name of the song, silly.”
“Yes, Sister, but I propose a different scenario.
Let’s go out on the Veranda. See how it clears?
We’ll dance out there, making our own lines
Showing them how it’s done.
Sister looked at the dance floor, then back at brother. “Why not? The floor’s full now anyway.”
Finding a secluded spot on the veranda, Brother removed his jacket and threw it over the clear, stone railing. Bowing, Brother took her offered hand, and pulled her into him. Whispering in her ear as the music began to play, he said,
Red Roses resting in your golden hair
Forgive me – but I can’t help but stare
As your composure and beauty
Is wasted on bland arrogant faces
Come, dance with me,
I will save you from disgrace
Sister We’ll electrify the party
Showing them how to dance
Each step with perfection and grace
We can’t help but put them to shame
In this little love game we play
To pass the time
We dance around and around
Wishing this symphony
Would never end
What we do is no crime
Though shame, we may, our fathers and mothers
By disobeying the laws
Crow has set down upon us
For the love we share
Is forbidden by all those we hold dear
As the song, which was the last for the night, wound down, Brother brushed his lips against Sister’s left ear,
Yet- let’s meet again next week
And as before – we’ll let our mystical touch
Carry us away on the backs of fairies
Fleeing from the troubles
That plaque us all the days
We’re apart.
Sister closed her eyes, surrendering to his whispered kiss. “Write me, and we’ll discuss what to do.” She murmured, lost in the moment.
