Background
Dear readers,
As I mentioned last week, my goal for this week is to write the background to Crow & Soul. A problem now presents itself: how to present the framework of the storyline. Will it be told as a story, as is recorded by a historian? Or is more or a myth - a legend, so to speak? To determine this, I’ll need to dive into the novel to see what exactly I had previously stated. So looking back, I have stated that it was recorded in stained, historic pages. So I believe that I’ll stage it in a way that if it’s told by a historian. Since it’s on old, stained pages, however it’s more shrouded in mystery and legend.
Daughter sat in front of the gilded- framed mirror, brushing her golden locks that flowed graciously past her well-formed shoulders. Viewing her reflection in the mirror, Daughter placed the jade brush on the right side of the ebony vanity, leaned forward and rested her elbows on its corners. Folding her elegant hands under her chin, Daughter sighed contentedly, letting her thoughts drift off to the Ball of Ascension that was to take place tonight in the Hall of Crow. Brother would be there. The thought of his broad shoulders, long jet black hair that waved in the wind, his dimpled chin and well- formed thighs and biceps that set her heart beating anytime he was near. She couldn’t wait to inhale his masculine scent and get lost in those black eyes that had a twinkle of a star in them. Daughter could almost taste Brother now, and yet, a problem presented itself. Father.
He’d forbid any contact with brother. In the past he had been tolerant of what he called, ‘Whims of a foolish Daughter,’ but last night, he called upon her and made it known that she was to ‘put her childish ways behind her. She was to embrace her role in Corvian society as a concubine of Crow &Company.’ A role that she and her sisters had been prepared for since the day they were born. She had never thought of this when she was young, but as the time came for her to be given away, the reality of her situation dwelt on her mind. Her heart beat for brother alone, and come what may tomorrow, tonight Daughter was going to defy Father, and dance with Brother.
